Opportunities and Threats on the Horizon for Complex Rehabilitation Technology

Peter Thomas is Managing Partner at Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville, PC, a Washington, DC-based law and lobbying firm focused on healthcare, education, and tribal law. He specializes in federal healthcare and disability policy, including Medicare, rehabilitation services, and prosthetics. Peter advocates for policies related to disability research, coding, and reimbursement. He frequently speaks and writes on these issues, serves as Co-Coordinator of the Independence Through Enhancement of Medicare and Medicaid (ITEM) Coalition and is general counsel to the National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics and Prosthetics (NAAOP). Peter has used prosthetic legs since age 10. He graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 1989, Boston College in 1986, and is licensed to practice law in New York State and the District of Columbia.
 
Peter has also served on the President’s Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in the Health Care Industry, the National Advisory Board for the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR) at NIH, the National Advisory Council of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on Improving the Disability Decision Process.
